Mucho Gusto!
You have probably heard love stories about Don Juan.
You even may have read stories of Don Quijote. But what does “Don” really
mean? Don was used as a term for nobility quite
like our “Sir”.
Now it is used more out of respect and not necessarily
for nobility.
Don Diego’s Mexican Restaurant is family owned
and serves traditional Mexican food and Central/Southern Mexican
Specialties.
The new restaurant is owned by the Ochoa Family; Monica
and Jose, and their children Viviana and Diego. A huge importance
to them is giving customers traditional food that also tastes delicious. “We
bring tradition to your table…”
It is very important
to the Ochoas to introduce traditional favorite
recipes from their families in Central and Southern
Mexico. Some customer favorites include: Enchilada
Suiza- a flour tortilla enchilada covered with a green sauce, Camarones
Piquin- shrimp sautéed
in a spicy, hot chipotle cream, onions, and mushrooms,
and marinated pork tacos-marinated pork loin served
in three soft corn tortillas. Of course (Por supuesto!), you can
always find your basic favorites like tacos, burritos, and tamales.
Desserts are also very popular at Don Diego’s
Mexican Restaurant. They serve flan and fried ice-cream. The flan
is a recipe that Monica keeps very close to her heart, and she prepares
all of the flan desserts herself. Do yourself a favor and try it
at least once.
Monica and Jose opened Don Diego’s in December
of 2009. The opportunity presented itself when they found a space
that they could not turn down. They had always dreamed of opening
a restaurant, and they decided to just jump in with both feet, thus
creating Don Diego’s Mexican
Restaurant. Both Monica and Jose felt that if they
didn’t take
this opportunity, especially one as great and convenient
as this, another one might not come along again. Many people consider
opening a restaurant in these unfortunate times a little “loco”,
to say the least, but that is not what the Ochoas
think. Sometimes the best things can be created in uncertain times.
Recalling the decision to open Don Diego’s, Jose said, “We
could not wait any longer for it to rain; we had to get up and make
it rain ourselves.”
That quote apparently carries on in the
next generation. Viviana noticed that her brother’s name was
on the sign when it was being installed. She approached her parents
and said, “Hey,
isn’t that my brother’s name on the sign?” Her
parents said, “Yes, Vivi that is your brother’s name.” She
countered with, “But, I thought that this was OUR restaurant…” Her
dad, Jose, said “It is OUR restaurant.” Vivi asked, “Well,
where is MY name?” To find out the answer, please stop by
Viviana’s Candy Shop. Obviously, being a good business person
runs in the Ochoa family.
Buen provecho y gracias por su visita... |
